Questions & Replies

  1. Want to add fresh strawberries. Any suggestions as to when? I thought I'd fold some chopped strawberries with bread. Then, after baking, make a strawberry sauce w/sliced strawberries (as I do on cheesescake. Any ideas/ suggestions?

  1. This hit the spot!!! Haven't had this in years. I used buns as you suggested which I have never tried before. This is quick and easy to make. Thank you for sharing this. :-)

  2. I had some brioche that was going stale and so I made this recipe and it was so great. I love how easy it is to make!

  3. Wow! Made this recipe this weekend and it was delicious! Used a loaf of cinnamon bread I bought from a fundraiser and doubled the recipe and used half the sugar and no extra cinnamon. Amazing! Very custardy and just the right sweetness and consistency - and done in 45 minutes! I'll be making this again!

  4. I googled this recipe when I had a baguette that we didn't eat. The baguette was so hard that I burned out the motor of my electric knife trying to cut it! Anyways, got the bread cut up, mixed all the ingredients (it wasn't specified white or brown sugar so I used brown), and threw in a can of sliced peaches for fun. It came out fantastic!! I was never a big fan of bread pudding, but I plan on making this a lot!!

Tweaks

  1. I used this recipe and it was delicious and just as I remember my Mom's used to be. She's gone now but, I try to replicate her cooking for good memories of her. This recipe is so easy and comes together fast. I just added raisins and they were great! I plan on adding other fruits like apples, pears, berries, etc. in the future. I'm thinking even instead of the suger, using some maple syrup and putting small pieces of bacon pre-cooked in for a sweet and savory breakfast pudding.

  2. I like my bread puddings with a bit of a sauce or caramel of some kind. So I made a simple glaze (1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon melted butter, splash of vanilla and 2 tablespoons of milk) then I drizzled it over the warm pudding. Amazing!

  3. correction: childhood favorite. I'll post again after I re-try.

  4. Try adding a handful of dried cranberries on top b4 baking. My grandson loves it and jhe's only 10!

  5. My DH makes bread regularly in the bread machine. There are always some trimmings, so we save them in quart-size ziploc bags, and if we have 2 bags full I double the recipe. It's a crowdpleaser at potlucks, meetings, and rehearsals. You can use any kind of bread, roll, cake, muffin, or cookie to make bread pudding. If it's something sweet, just reduce the sugar in the recipe accordingly. I've 'saved' a couple of bad (or stale) batches of quick breads by adding them to the mix. Raisins or chocolate chips are good too, or you can substitute mashed banana for part of the milk. BTW, I use vanilla instead of cinnamon for the added flavor. It seems to be a better complement to whatever else I throw in.
