One of our favorites for going on 30 years now this is also called a lush dessert. Found it in a church cookbook that long ago by that name but it's the exact same ingredients with the exception of powdered sugar rather than regular sugar.

This is a wonderful recipe! My aunt started making this a few years ago after finding the recipe on allrecipes.com and now my dad tells her she can't come to Christmas or Thanksgiving without it!

It was so great to find this recipe! My mother used to make something like this when we were kids. I took it to a potluck and it was a big hit. ( I did mix the cool whip and pudding for a mousse-like top layer.)

Since I didn't have any instant pudding I made my own. The only problem that I ran into was the pudding was runny so it was hard to serve.

Wonderful dessert! It's amazingly good and addictive! I get many requests for this dessert. I do prefer to mix one box of chocolate and one box of vanilla. I also prefer to make the crust with pecans. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, your family and guests will ooh-and-aah about this creamy four-layer chocolate dessert. I have one suggestion about the crust (first layer). I put the flour, UNCHOPPED nuts and very soft butter in a food processor. I pulsed it a couple times which chopped the nuts and incorporated the butter. Pour into your 9x13 pan, tamp down with your fingers and bake the crust. Much quicker that way! Some versions of this recipe have you combine one pkg. of instant chocolate pudding and one pkg. of instant VANILLA pudding, which I like better than two pkgs. of chocolate. I think it adds a richness to the flavor, and it does not noticably alter the dark chocolate color of the pudding layer, so I would recommend that change also. It is really yummy, you will love it!

This was easy and really yummy! I made two smaller cakes in 8 inch square pans for my MIL's birthday. The only change I had to make was to make an additional 1/4 recipe of the crust because I didn't have enough to split between the pans. I made one cake with chocolate pudding, and the other with lemon pudding, and both were excellant. We will make again. Thanks!

I have been making this for a number of years. I use sugarfree pudding and low fat cream cheese. I have to hide this from my son, to keep him from eating all of it.

This is a family favorite. We also like to grate milk chocolate bars over the top and sprinkle it with a few nuts. It can be made ahead and frozen and tastes great frozen too. Thanks for sharing.

This is my husbands most requested desser! We use 1 pkg choc pudding and 1 vanilla, just how our family likes it. Also I grate some chocolate on top and we use pecans and powdered sugar.

This is the desert I have made for years and it is wonderful; more of a pastry really. I recommend using chopped pecans for the "nut" and using powdered sugar for the "sugar" listed in the ingredients.
