directions

  • Fritters - pour oil into a medium saucepan until one-third full.
  • Heat over medium high heat until hot.
  • Combine the flours and sugar with enough ice cold water to make a batter the consistency of thickened (doubled) cream.
  • Coat the sliced apples in the batter and deep fry in batches for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden, remove to a wire rack to drain.
  • Cinnamon Sugar - combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Caramel Sauce - combine the butter and sugar in a small saucepan, place over medium heat and cook 3 - 4 minutes or until sugar is dissolved, stir in the cream and simmer for 2 - 3 minutes until sauce thickens.
  • Place the fitters on serving plates, sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar, pour over caramel sauce and enjoy.

  1. I doubled this recipe because I knew my family and I had a feeling it was going to be a winner and that my family would want seconds. I was right! These are super yummy breakfast treat. I made extra of the cinnamon sugar mixture because I wanted to coat the apple fritters with the cinnamon/sugar mixture instead of sprinkling. The caramel sauce was yummo too. My family and I truly enjoyed this recipe and it's a definate keeper. tag game.

  2. These were great! Loved the crisp outside and the batter was so easy to mix up. I served them as part of "dinner for breakfast" with maple syrup instead of caramel which worked well. A very nice treat with out fun dinner.

  3. I made these as an after-school snack for my GD and her frieds. They scoffed them up and all gave a thumbs up. Coming from this finicky group that means five stars.

  4. I loved these fritters I'm Pat, they were awesome, crisp, tender and oh so flavorful. I was in heaven, they were incredible, so good, served warm or cold. The fritters were crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The apples were tender and flavorful. Dusted with cinnamon sugar and drizzled with caramel sauce, I couldn't ask for anything more. I used Golden Ginger apples. Thanks for sharing a recipe, that I have placed in my keeper box.

  5. I actually doubled this recipe, since I was making these as finger food & using the caramel sauce as a dip ~ OUTSTANDING! I couldn'd find Pink Ladies so used Honeycrisp apples! Am hoping when I decide to make this recipe again that I'll be able to find the Pink Ladies, perhaps at Trader Joes! Anyway, thanks for sharing a great recipe! With the demise of the forums and with no more interaction on site with what was a great community and it was a pleasure to get to know so many of you over the years and to have had the privilege of meeting some of you in person. For me now this is just another recipe site like to many on the net, it has lost its specialness, such a pity especially when Scripps changed the name from Recipezaar to Food.com and made this statement sorry cannot replicate here as considered invalid but they basically said yes the community was valuable hence .com was short for community but it was a pack of lies as they were not willing to put the money into that community and got rid of the forums which was the community so for .com has become .crap.
