This recipe is from a cookbook I picked up at an apple orchard. Since I picked a variety of baking apples, so I was able to combine some different kinds to get a delicious result.
- Pare, core and slice the apples. Combine apples, spices, sugar and lemon juice. Place in 8" baking dish and dot with 3 tablespoons butter.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Stir in brown sugar and cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Stir in milk, mixing until dough forms a ball. Pat over apples in pan. Brush top with milk and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Bake at 350 degrees until apples are tender and crust is lightly browned. Serve with half-in-half poured over servings.
This was wonderful, so easy. I have a large apple tree and am always looking for ways to use them.(Don,t know what kind of apples they are). The tree was here when I moved in and no one around here knows what kind they are. Mine cooked in 30 mins. Thanks for the receipe Am making it again today.....
Yummy!! This recipe goes together very quickly and easily, and bakes up with a lightly sweet biscuit-like crust. I baked this for 55 minutes and the apples got a little mushy. Next time, I will only bake for 45 minutes and they should be perfect. I didn't have any half & half, so I poured whipping cream over it, yuumm!! My family devoured this and gave it 2 big thumbs up. Thank you for sharing this wonderful, easy dessert...it is definitely a keeper!!
